Finding Direction, Finding Joy
Whatever our heart’s desires—whether it’s better health, more financial resources, improved relationships or to live our purpose—there is a path for each of us to experience them all.
But sometimes, despite our fervent wish to live our desires, we experience a lack of clarity and direction instead. Not only do we struggle to see the path, we have no clue what next step will lead us forward toward what we really want.
As a result, because of this lack of clarity, we may attempt to “force a solution” and, thus, attempt to head down the wrong path.
This is exactly what an acquaintance named Rosemary was experiencing last week when I bumped into her while out running errands. During our conversation, she told me that after ten (unhappy) years in the same job position as an accountant she believed a promotion was the answer.
As I listened to Rosemary talk–and attempt to “force a solution”–I intuitively sensed she was off-target in living her life purpose. So I mentioned what I do for a living and then I asked if I could share some intuitive messages with her.
After her nod of encouragement, I told her that I sensed she was a highly, creative person who was trying to fit herself into an analytical job. I also sensed what she really wanted to do was help other women change their lives for the better.
Looking at me with astonishment, Rosemary shared how she had thought about doing exactly this for many years. But until that moment, she hadn’t acknowledged it either to herself or to anyone else.
Yet when she did, when she owned her heart’s desire, not only did she find direction, but her face glowed with profound joy.
At the same time, Rosemary also realized from our conversation that she had been focusing on the wrong thing in her attempts to find direction for her life. That it’s never about what we should do or whether or not we should stay with or leave something (at least, not initially).
Instead, it’s about acknowledging who we are and what we want.
It’s also about identifying and then owning our secret dreams or our heart’s desires, whatever they may be and regardless of how impossible they may seem at the time. In this way, we finally find the direction we so desperately seek…and the joy for which we deeply yearn.
More importantly, we begin to walk the path to our heart’s desires so that we may finally live them, too.
